With support from the Gates Foundation, the MasterCard Labs for Financial Inclusion has launched 2KUZE, a program that connects farmers with buyers. The program launched in Kenya recently and, after testing and refinement, will be expanded to other countries on the continent.
As reported in TechCrunch, 2KUZE is more than a payment platform. Rather it is a platform to connect buyers and markets as described in the graphic below (from here):
As reported by Devex, 2KUZE will provide farmers with up-to-date prices information, which allows them to bargain with their phones before moving any cargo. The plan is to open up their choices (and minds) towards better budgeting and risk management.
